Artist Statement

In my work I strive for a balance of color and shape. A couple of years ago I read an article about the painter Marsden Hartley from Maine who worked in the first half of the 20th century. He said something like this, "If you get the color right everything else will follow". That impresses me. I also like pattern and layering as compositional tools.

Right now I'm working in a primitive figurative style. I try to keep my working process as simple as possible.

Traveling has been a big inspiration. I've lived in San Francisco, New York and Mexico City and traveled as far as Moscow and Calcutta. I think where I've been helps explain me.
